  • Who Will Win The 2012 Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s top collegiate football player. Last season’s runner-up, QB Andrew Luck of Stanford, is among the top candidates for the 2012 trophy.

Luck, who has thrown for 1,013 yards and 11 TDs through Stanford’s first 4 games, has to be considered the early player to beat, but there’s no shortage of competition. QB Russell Wilson of Wisconsin has thrown for 13 TDs among his 1,391 yards and also 1 interception through the Badgers first 5 games. Wilson has also picked up 140 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Robert Griffin II, Baylor’s electrifying QB, has dazzled opponents through 4 games with 1,308 yards, 18 TDs, completing a remarkable 82.3 of his passes. QB Kellen Moore of Boise State directs one of the nation’s most prolific offenses, and has thrown for 1,137 yards and 14 TDs after 4 games. Speaking of offenses, Oklahoma’s QB Landry Jones is racking up some impressive stats after 4 games, piling up 1,447 yards and 10 TDs. For versatility, few QBs can match up with Michigan’s Denard Robinson. The elusive Robinson, after 5 games has thrown for 793 yards and 8 TDs in addition to rushing for 608 yards and 6 scores.

Among running backs, Alabama’s RB Trent Richardson is hoping to duplicate former teammate Mark Ingram’s 2009 Heisman-winning effort. Richardson, after 5 games, has 622 yards and 10 TDs. Sophomore RB Ronnie Hillman of San Diego State wasn’t highly-regarded prior to this season, but after 4 games, the speedster has opened some eyes with his 8 TDs and 606 yards.

There are several wide receivers who should factor into the Heisman race, led by WR Alshon Jeffrey of South Carolina. Jeffrey’s numbers (19 catches, 332 yards, 2 TDs) aren’t overwhelming, but he’s regularly double-teamed. Robert Woods, a sophomore WR at Southern Cal, is putting up eye-popping numbers through 4 games (55 catches, 747 yards, 6 TDs), and is a player to watch.
